Hello
My name is Claire Jackson-Mee. I am an optimistic artist working in a variety of media.
Love being outside especially when the weather is a bit wild.
Hopefully the work speaks for itself.
You can find me at Porthleven harbour market most Thursdays throughout the summer. Also, I have two exhibitions planned; one for a week from June 4th at Porthleven old lifeboat house. (poor access I'm afraid, very steep steps) and another at The Rock institute from 16th until 22nd September
biography
Claire Jackson-Mee has a degree in Psychology. She spent eight years as a primary/middle school teacher before travelling to explore remote mountains and then moving overseas to help a friend establish a new secondary school in Qatar. Claire is a self taught artist but, following a lucky break and alot of hard work, ended up running a large Art department which offered GCSE and A level courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, creative textiles, photography and ceramics. All good fun!! Best job ever.

Her Art journey started from an early age but truly gripped whilst teaching and then later in experiencing the coasts of stunning Cornwall. Her work is ever evolving responses to the surrounding environment...but almost all of the work comes down to the light and varied colours and textures of water..especially fast moving waves on a classic stormy day. Many a sketchbook and, more recently,a very good camera have been destroyed by an ill judged wave but there really is nothing more inspiring, uplifting and magical than being in the presence of a powerful storm.
This is a tough subject to capture. The aim is to convey the movement , the spray, the power , the colours etc , without becoming too caught up in technical accuracy as this can make the subject too static.
Another source of joy is moving forwards and developing the work. She does not want to stand still and keep producing the same stuff, though interestingly, she does return again and again to a Porthleven storm as it never stands still and never disappoints.
Claire is often found on a stall at the wonderful Porthleven harbour market where she scribbles and paints responses to the changing light and tides in view (and sells a few paintings and prints)
It's well worth a visit as Porthleven has become a new foodie and market hub of west Cornwall and the stallholders are a simply brilliant bunch of interesting individuals.
She has exhibited widely in the Middle East and Wales and has an annual show at the wonderful Porthleven lifeboat House gallery , this year being her first solo event.

Kim and Claire met in Qatar and get together whenever possible . A day together usually ends up with sore feet, sunburn, dehydration, getting lost and pure elation at multiple new discoveries.
